What we know!
Competitive range, quick fast-charging ability and a roomy interior are just some of the perks when it comes to the Prologue for 2025. Produced in partnership with General Motors and in an effort to re-enter the U.S. EV market, the Prologue borrows its platform battery and motors from the Chevy Blazer EV. What this means is not much differentiation between the two, with the exception of Honda’s offering of the ever-popular Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, something that is not available on any newer GM EVs.
A competitive performer and in its second model year, the Prologue is presented with updates including a more powerful front-mounted electric motor. This brings total output to 220 hp for front-wheel-drive models and 300 hp for all-wheel-drive models. Range estimates also improved, with the FWD Prologue now rated for 308 miles on a charge and the all-wheel drive model at 294 miles.
In the area of trim levels, the Prologue ranges in price and options, starting at $48,850 and going up to $59,350. Trims include the traditional EX, Touring and Elite, with even the entry-level Prologue equipped with heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control and wireless smartphone charging. With the upgraded Touring, occupants enjoy leather upholstery, a 12-speaker Bose stereo and memory seat settings. The front-wheel drive model features the highest estimated driving range of 296 miles per charge.
Under hood, the Prologue is presented with either a 220-hp single motor and front-wheel drive or with two motors that combine for 300 hp and all-wheel drive. Test drives have revealed that the dual-motor version provided adequate acceleration, but the Prologue did lack the punch of its rivals, including the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Kia EV6.
On the open road, its manners are even-tempered, with motorists enjoying a smooth ride and steady handling, although experiencing steering that lacks the tactile feel of other Hondas. A plus is the adjustable regenerative braking system, and single-pedal driving is also possible.
Testing of 0-60 mph times has not yet been done with the 2025 model and its more powerful electric motor, but testing of the all-wheel-drive, dual-motor Elite model reached 60 in 5.9 seconds.
When it comes to range, charging and battery life, all Prologue models come with an 85.0-kWh battery pack that is sourced from GM. With the single-motor front-wheel-drive model, the vehicle has an EPA-estimated 308-mile driving range. Meanwhile, all-wheel-drive versions of the EX and Touring trims are rated for 294 miles per charge, with the range-topping Elite presented with a 283-mile estimate.
In the area of fuel economy, efficiency can surely be had with the front-wheel-drive versions of the EX and Touring trims, both earning ratings of 113 MPG city and 94 MPG highway.
The design within speaks to all-things Honda, with a simplified dashboard and a clutter-free design in muted tones. Thanks to a longer wheelbase than the CR-V by eight inches and a wider model as well, the Prologue boasts a roomier cabin with plenty of additional cargo space. Also within is a dashboard featuring an 11.3-inch infotainment touchscreen as well as an in-dash navigation system which utilizes Google Maps. Provided as standard are features including an 11.0-inch digital gauge display and a wireless smartphone charging pad. A head-up display is available only on the top-spec Elite. Also standard on the Touring and Elite models are the Prologue’s A-pillars.
Safety is clearly at the forefront in this new Prologue, with a suite of driver-assistant features called Honda Sensing. Benefits of this package are plentiful and include such basic systems as automated emergency braking and lane-departure warning, as well as more advanced tech like lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control and traffic-sign recognition. More info on the Prologue’s crash-test results can be found by visiting the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety websites. The Prologue also has key safety features that come as standard including automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist and adaptive cruise control.
Its warranty is the same as all other new Honda models, which includes a coverage package encompassing two years, or 24,000 miles, of complimentary scheduled maintenance. A limited warranty covers three years or 36,000 miles; while a powertrain warranty covers five years or 60,000 miles. Electric components are also covered for eight years or 100,000 miles.
With an impressive driving range and smooth ride, as well as engine options and varied trim levels, the Prologue has more than gained momentum. Its adequate power and keen handling – as well as roominess within – makes for a wise choice when looking for that next vehicle. Gaining momentum – you bet! Take a test drive today
