Honda Sensing makes perfect 'Sense!'

Honda Sensing is made up of many safety features that are in place to help reduce the risk of collisions by correcting braking and steering, and serves to warn the driver if necessary.

Honda Sensing features include:

Lane Keeping Assist System, (LKAS), adjusts steering to help you keep centered in a detected lane. If you begin to leave the lane without signaling, it will gently correct your steering.

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC),  helps your Honda maintain a set following interval behind detected vehicles. This uses a radar system which is hidden in the grille and a camera in the rearview mirror. This feature helps to maintain a set speed and keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front of you. As a result of this feature, if a vehicle in front of you slows down, your vehicle will automatically slow down too. Once the vehicle in front of you speeds up or moves out from in front of you, your vehicle will accelerate back to the set speed.

Road Departure Mitigation System (RDM), adjusts steering and braking if you cross detected lanes without signaling. A small camera can see road markers, alert you if you're about to leave the road, and take action to help keep you from doing so such as steering wheel pulsating, steering torque to automatically steer back on the road, and braking if necessary.

Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), applies break pressure when an unavoidable collision is determined. It reduces the likelihood and severity of a frontal impact. It will lightly brake if the vehicle does not start to slow down when at risk of a collision.

Lane Departure Warning (LDW), detects uninitiated lane departures from detected lanes. Alerts will flash and sound to help bring your attention to correcting the lane drift. This is done through the use of a camera mounted to the passenger-side mirror. This only alerts drivers when lane drift is detected without a turn signal.

Forward Collision Warning (FCW), relies on a small camera on the windshield to detect vehicles in front of you, activating audio and visual alerts to warn you if you are at risk of a collision.

LaneWatch Blind Spot Display uses a camera that is mounted to the passenger-side mirror. It provides a live feed of the right-hand side of the road. With Honda Lane Watch, anytime you signal right, the camera on the passenger-side mirror will turn on and display live video on your Display Audio Touch-Screen, revealing nearly four times more than the average passenger-side mirror.

Blind Spot Information System. When your turn signal is on and a vehicle is detected in an adjacent lane, the indicator blinks and a beep sounds until the area is clear or the turn signal is off

Cross Traffic Monitor. When in reverse with the Multi-Angle Rearview Camera in any viewing mode, the driver is alerted to a detected vehicle approaching from the side with a series of beeps and indicators shown on the camera's display.

Traffic Sign Recognition uses a small camera to recognize and help notify you of speed limit signs with a visual icon.

Auto High-Beam Headlights. When you are driving at night above 25 mph and the headlight lever is in the low-beam position with the switch rotated to AUTO, the system intuitively changes between low and high beams depending on surrounding conditions.

This collection of safety features use cameras positioned around the vehicle and a radar system to help give the driver a complete view of the road. In addition, it works to alert the driver when they are at risk of a collision, and correct steering and braking in dangerous driving conditions.

How to use Honda Sensing….

Collision Mitigation Braking System is used by pressing the safety support switch, rolling the left selected wheel to the CMBS symbol and selecting it. A beep will then sound and a message appears in the multi-informational display. The CMBS indicator appears when the system is off.

Lane Keeping Assist System is used by pressing the main button on the right side of the steering wheel and you will see the LKAS appear on the multi-information screen. Then press the LKAS button on the right side of the steering wheel and once pressed, a dotted road outline will appear on the multi-information system.

The LKAS is now on, and when the road lines on the multi-information screen turns solid, the system is activated. When the lines are outlined, it is not activated because the vehicle is unable to pick up the road lines due to poor road conditions or inclement weather.

Adaptive Cruise Control is used by pressing the main button on the right side of the steering wheel and the ACC indicator will appear on the multi-information screen. Accelerate to the desired speed and then take your foot off the pedal and press set. To adjust the speed, just press the plus and minus button on the steering wheel. To adjust the following distance, press the interval button. Pressing the interval button will cycle through four distances - extra long, long, middle and short. 

Once the ACC is on, the vehicle is now on cruise while keeping a safe distance from vehicles in front of you.

Road Departure Mitigation System is used by pressing the safety support switch, rolling the left selector with to the RDM symbol and pushing it.

Traffic Sign Recognition is always on and you need to do nothing to turn it off or on. This feature reminds you of road sign information, such as the current speed limit that your vehicle just passed through. It does this by showing it on the driver information interface and the head-up display.
